This carving won first place in the Advanced Class at the 2012 Ward World Championships for floating decoys. This is full-sized floating decorative decoy. This decoy was large enough to require two pieces of wood (tupelo) and it took almost nine months from start to finish. The majority of time was spent burning in each individual barb of every feather. The carving and sanding part moved along quickly. The painting was lengthy even after I settled on the colors. Burning feather detail was the major issue.
