Interpretive Wood Sculpture
These pieces are all wood - of any size and shape - that are sculpted then generally sanded and stained or varnished. For the most part, the particular piece of wood will itself tell the carver what sculpture should be created.

Driftwood Harbor Seal

This carving of a harbor seal’s head is made from a piece of northwestern cedar which came from the San Juan Islands in the state of Washington. This sculpture is 15 inches long. This particular seal was inspired by "Popeye," the resident seal in Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands. View slideshow
Driftwood Pelican

This pelican is emerging after a plunge in the surf. It is made from a piece of black walnut driftwood. This carving is about 6 inches high. View slideshow
Black Gold?

This is Hank’s depiction of the devastating impact of an oil spill on wildlife. This statement piece was carved out of driftwood. The bronze plaque, hard to read in a photograph, says BLACK GOLD?. The carving is a duck on a beach, slightly sunken in sand about half covered in oil. The carving is 15 inches long and about five inches high.
